Our scoring system rewards skill, speed, and clean play. Understanding how points are calculated helps you make smarter decisions and climb the leaderboards.
The scoring system is designed around three principles:
This means there are multiple paths to a high score: you can play fast with combos, play carefully without assistance, or find the optimal balance between speed and precision.
Each tile match earns base points determined by the tile type. Rarer tiles are worth more:
| Tile Type | Base Points | Tiles in Set | Max Base Points |
|---|---|---|---|
| Characters (Wan) | 2 pts per match | 36 tiles (18 pairs) | 36 pts |
| Dots (Tong) | 4 pts per match | 36 tiles (18 pairs) | 72 pts |
| Bamboo (Tiao) | 6 pts per match | 36 tiles (18 pairs) | 108 pts |
| Wind tiles | 8 pts per match | 16 tiles (8 pairs) | 64 pts |
| Dragon tiles | 10 pts per match | 12 tiles (6 pairs) | 60 pts |
| Flower tiles | 12 pts per match | 4 tiles (2 pairs) | 24 pts |
| Season tiles | 14 pts per match | 4 tiles (2 pairs) | 28 pts |
If you clear the entire board, the maximum base points from tile values alone is 392 points (before combos, chains, and bonuses). The real scoring power comes from the multiplier systems described below.
The combo system rewards rapid consecutive matches. When you match tiles quickly in succession, each subsequent match earns a higher multiplier:
Imagine matching these tiles rapidly in sequence:
Total from this 4-combo sequence: 78 points (compared to 28 without combos).
Before starting a combo run, scan the board and identify 3-4 matches you can execute quickly. Plan your clicks in advance so you don't waste time scanning between matches. The biggest combos come from pre-planned sequences.
The chain bonus rewards matching tiles from the same suit consecutively. If you match Bamboo tiles and then immediately match more Bamboo tiles, you earn a chain bonus on top of the regular combo multiplier.
The highest-scoring plays combine chain bonuses with combo multipliers. For example, rapidly matching 3 Bamboo pairs in succession gives you both the combo multiplier (x1, x2, x3) and the suit chain bonus. This is where top scores come from.
Completing the board earns you significant bonus points. Multiple bonuses can stack:
| Bonus | Points | Condition |
|---|---|---|
| Win Bonus | +500 | Clear all tiles from the board |
| No-Shuffle Bonus | +200 | Win without using the shuffle feature |
| No-Undo Bonus | +100 | Win without using the undo feature |
If you clear the board without using either undo or shuffle, you earn all three bonuses: +800 total bonus points. This is a substantial addition to your score and represents the cleanest possible win.
Win + No-Shuffle + No-Undo = +800 bonus points. Combined with high combo chains and good time, this is the foundation of top leaderboard scores.
The time factor rewards faster completions. The faster you clear the board, the higher your time bonus. This creates an interesting tension with the no-undo and no-shuffle bonuses — playing fast risks mistakes, but playing carefully takes more time.
For most players, the optimal strategy is: play quickly when you see clear matches (to build combos and save time), and pause briefly for difficult decisions (to avoid mistakes that would cost your no-undo bonus). The +100 no-undo bonus is often worth the few extra seconds of thinking time.
To achieve the highest possible scores, combine these techniques:
Before your first match, identify clusters of 3-4 matches you can execute rapidly. Start with these pre-planned combo sequences for a strong opening.
When building combos, try to include Dragon (10 pts), Flower (12 pts), and Season (14 pts) matches. These high-value tiles benefit most from combo multipliers.
Look for opportunities to match 2-3 pairs of the same suit in rapid succession to trigger chain bonuses on top of combos.
Aim for the no-undo and no-shuffle bonuses (+300 combined). Use the three-of-a-kind technique and careful planning to avoid needing these features.
Keep your momentum up. Long pauses between matches not only break combos but reduce your time bonus. If you need to think, make it quick — or plan while executing your current combo.
A well-played game might look like this: ~600 from base tiles with combos + 200 chain bonuses + 500 win bonus + 200 no-shuffle + 100 no-undo + time bonus = 1,800+ total points. Top players consistently achieve 2,000+ on favorable boards.
